BUTLER MUSEUM AND HISTORICAL COMMITTEE

The R. Kennedy Carpenter Resource Center houses an extensive collection of Butler High School yearbooks from 1918, an extensive library of local papers from the early 1900s to present, a postcard collection of over 300 early Butler photos, and ledgers and journals of fraternal and social organizations of the late 1800s.

BEAVERTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Holdings comprise over 50 cubic feet of records, artifacts, and memorabilia documenting the history of Lincoln Park, once known as Beavertown. The collection includes numerous photos, tax records, maps, books, newspapers, and other documents. It is open to researchers by appointment. .

CHESTER HISTORICAL SOCIETY, INC.

The Society has a variety of genealogical materials, records, and research notes relating to the history of Chester. The collection has substantial records of a local women's club, municipal tax records, twentieth century maps of northwest and central Morris County, 800 photographs, and approximately 60 oral history tapes, many of which are transcribed. Holdings include account books, personal papers, maps, ephemera, photographs and slides, oral histories, local history files, out of print books, and a limited reference library. There also is a small museum collection. The office is open Thursday, 10 to 4 P.M by appointment.

Holdings include municipal government records on microform, books on local and state history, a genealogical collection including family files, oral histories (typed and transcribed), and a significant photograph and slide collection. There is no finder's guide, but the collection is small enough to review rapidly. It is open to researchers by appointment.

LAKE HOPATCONG HISTORICAL SOCIETY

This collection includes one cubic foot of records for a municipality, a voluntary association, and three businesses around Lake Hopatcong in Morris and Sussex counties. This collection contains a Civil War journal and letters; day books of a local cabinetmaker/undertaker; photos and ledgers of the Madison YMCA; manuscripts and memorabilia, biographical files and obituaries of local families; personal publications and scrap books; local maps and newspapers; local vertical files; plus a photographic collection and some oral history tapes. This collection contains 400 cubic feet of court records, deeds, election returns, building contracts, tavern licenses, road returns, and other documents filed with the Morris County Clerk between the mid-eighteenth and the mid-twentieth centuries. There also are microfilmed newspapers, slave records, and Widows Relief Petitions. The records are organized by category and chronology and inventoried in a computer database. Some categories of documents have indexes. Administered by the Morris County Heritage Commission, the Archives is open to researchers by appointment. MORRIS COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Victorian Research Library at Acorn Hall, the MCHS headquarters, specializes in nineteenth century history with more than 2,000 books, magazines, newspapers, and pamphlets. The Library also contains period publications and new scholarship about the Victorian Era. This collection, the only one of its kind in New Jersey, includes illustrated 19th century children's books and several local history publications. A wide assortment of photographs and records are kept in the MCHS Archives as well as collections of papers relating to county businesses and residents, including the 75-year history of Lewis Pierson Jr., blacksmith and carriage repairer. Family papers include those of the Schermerhorns, Cranes, Hones, and Cornings of Acorn Hall. Books are cataloged according to the Library of Congress system, while manuscript material is arranged by inventory numbers, and cross-referenced by a card index. The Library is open to researchers by appointment between 9 A.M. and 4 P.M on weekdays. Visit their web site.

MORRISTOWN CHAPTER--DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION

MOUNTAIN LAKES HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMITTEE

Holdings include maps and histories of Mountain Lakes, oral history tapes, press clippings of public meetings before 1930, architectural drawings and reports on the Grimes homestead site, photographs of homes and landscapes, and mementos of special events and celebrations. Holdings include an extensive collection of historic views of Netcong, Stanhope, and Port Morris, emphasizing the downtowns of these communities and the role of Lake Musconetcong and the Morris Canal in the economic life of the area. The collection documents many prominent commercial buildings in Netcong. It also contains some business records of the Hulse General Store in Stanhope and Kenvil, and documents relating to the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad in Netcong. It is open to researchers by appointment.

This collection, housed at the Morris County Archives/Morris County Heritage Commission, contains five cubic feet of business records, personal papers, and other materials relating to Ralston and the wider Mendham Township area. HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP
